This 61 key keyboard Piano,Portable Electronic Digital Piano,Built In Dual Speakers,External Microphone,Power Plug,Rich Teaching Content,Multi-Functional Electronic Piano Suitable For Beginners is definitely for kids to play around with. The keys are much smaller than a “real” keyboard. I personally don’t like that IF the kid wants to transition to playing a real piano or keyboard, because they will have to change their “muscle memory.” But, if they are just playing around and learning about how music works, this is fine. There are 99 tones, too many to list on the keyboard, they are on the enclosed paper with directions. There seems to be about every type of sound you can think of. The same goes for their 99 rhythm options. My suggestion is to copy the directions paper so an adult can have it stored away for when it gets lost. It would be a great loss to not have that paper available for the player. I like the options to record and play back. I like that it comes with a microphone and that it has a headphone jack. IF you are getting this for your own child OR giving it as a gift, make sure you include headphones as listening to a kid play this for much time would drive you crazy! It also comes with stickers to put the letter names on the keys. I would suggest getting help with someone who knows keyboards if you put these on, as they can be confusing and putting them on incorrectly will be a huge problem if you want the child to learn music. I was amazed at how lightweight this keyboard is, but it is fine for a kid playing around and making “music” complete with rhythm and different instrument tones. I know many kids that had ones like this and they played them for hours and loved it. I feel like it did help them develop artistic creativity. The sound from this keyboard is not going to be good enough to play in concert, but if you want a concert instrument, get something else. That’s NOT what this keyboard is for!!! The one other thing to mention is that the 10 demo songs are from China and I highly doubt any American child will know any of them. But, they will hear how actual music sounds when you put together a tune. This is nice for a beginner who wants to play around with music and has small fingers.
